The Professional Meetings Committee of the Geological Society of South Africa presents

Exploration License Day

The A-Z of Prospecting Rights in South Africa

A One-Day Course

30 July 2015 - 8 SACNASP CPD points will be awarded to GSSA members

About The Course

Currently in South Africa and to some extent neighboring countries, exploration activity is somewhat muted, in large part due to the global resources slump we are currently experiencing.  But the world is not replacing its minerals reserves adequately, and sooner or later an upturn in exploration activity will occur.  As one of the world’s major repositories of mineral wealth, there will no doubt be a refocus on the southern African region.

As part of the proceedings leading into the Annual General Meeting of the GSSA on July 30, a workshop on the current regulatory environment as well as a ‘how-to’ session on the prospecting rights application process in South Africa will be staged at the Auckland Park campus of the Johannesburg Country Club.  The final program will be released this week, but will cover:

  • Introduction - Setting the Scene for the Day
  • Rights Management - Legal and Technical Aspects
  • Exploration Finance
  • The Social License - Bringing Communities On Side
  • Environmental Reporting and EIAs
  • The Rights Application Process – How to Go About it
  • The Drilling Environment - Safety, Health and Environment
  • Exploration Philosophies

The day will end with networking drinks, leading into the early evening Annual General Meeting of the Geological Society of South Africa.
